DJ Shivers & Line Dancing Lisa Featured on the Cover of San Mateo Living Magazine
We’re incredibly honored to be featured on the September 2026 cover of San Mateo Living Magazine in a story titled “A Line Dancing Love Story.”
The feature shares something much more personal than one of our usual event stories. It tells the story of Line Dancing Lisa, how country dancing became part of her life, how DJ Shivers eventually became part of that journey, and how a shared love of music, dancing, and community helped create what we’re doing throughout the San Francisco Bay Area today.
A Love of Dancing That Started Long Before the Big Crowds
Lisa was born and raised in San Mateo and has always had a natural ability to bring people together.
As the article shares, even growing up she was often the person encouraging friends to learn new dances and creating routines. Later, while living in San Francisco, she discovered line dancing and began teaching.
What started small quickly became something much bigger.
Her first local line dance class at Bucky’s in San Mateo began with only a handful of dancers. As more people discovered the class, attendance grew and additional dance opportunities followed.
That same welcoming approach continues to be at the heart of what we do today.
When Country Dancing Brought DJ Shivers & Line Dancing Lisa Together
The article also tells the story of how Lisa and Steven — better known as DJ Shivers — became partners both on and off the dance floor.
Country dancing helped bring them together, and over time they began building events around something they both cared about: creating places where people could have fun, learn to dance, meet new people, and feel welcome regardless of experience level.
What began as a shared interest turned into weekly country dance nights and a growing community stretching throughout the Bay Area.
Creating More Than Just a Dance Night
One of our favorite parts of the San Mateo Living feature is that it captures something we’ve always believed:
Country dancing is about much more than learning steps.
People may come for the music or the line dance lesson, but along the way they find friendships, laughter, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
The article highlights how the community has grown from small classes into packed dance floors and recurring events throughout the region.
For us, that community is the most rewarding part of everything we do.
From San Mateo to the Greater Bay Area
San Mateo will always be an important part of our story.
It’s where Lisa grew up, where some of the earliest local classes took place, and where the country dance community continued to develop.
Today, DJ Shivers & Line Dancing Lisa bring country music and beginner-friendly line dancing to events throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, helping introduce new dancers to the community while giving experienced dancers places to keep doing what they love.
Whether it’s a weekly country night, wedding, corporate event, festival, private party, or large community event, the goal remains the same:
Create a fun, welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable joining the dance floor.
